The BDA is getting desperate -- they know their PS3-based lead will continue to narrow as cheap HD DVD players flood the market this Xmas. The Bluray strategy of higher-tech and custom silicon can't fight the low-price HD DVD strategy of off-the-shelf. At least not until 2008 or 2009.
What the BDA fears most is starting next January with over 1 million installed HD DVD players, all dedicated to movies, versus a few million PS3s, only some of which are even connected to HDTVs, let along used for movies.
So, F.U.D. to convince folks they have to buy the $500 bluray hardware rather than the $250 HD DVD machine.
what the hell are you talking about? why would NOW after more than a year, would the lead start to narrow? because they're getting cheaper? i'm not sure if you've been under a rock this last year, but hd dvd players have ALWAYS been cheaper, and yet they still continue to get outsold. The price can only drop so much, and the thing is blu ray players are starting to get right on their heels in terms of pricing now. 400 new for the hd-a20 and 500 for the sony...not a huge difference there. even 300 for the hd-a2 and 500 for the sony isn't too bad for most people. its only a $200 gap now, not $500 from a year ago
