Just in case you thought
Disney's
support of the Blu-ray format
might be slipping, the company is taking its show on the road with an 18-city mall tour to promote the format. Disney's Magical
Blu-ray tour, sponsored by fellow Blu-ray backers and
experienced mall-tourers Panasonic, starts August 17th and aims to educate customers about the format with interactive demos of Blu-ray movies and hourly presentations on Blu-ray tech. While consumer confusion over high definition in general and the format war specifically is definitely a problem, we have a feeling that "education" will go a lot more smoothly once hardware prices drop a bit more. Check the link for dates the tour is coming near you, no word on if the
HD DVD tour plans to crash any stops.

It might help Blu-ray more if Disney just released a lot more Movie titles in Blu-ray. There is still a lack of good movie titles in High Def. More releases means more interest.

Agreed. Disney needs to release more movies to beef-up Blu-Ray content. I'm especially excited for Pixar movies to be released on Blu-Ray. If you thought the POTC movies looked good on Blu-Ray, the Pixar movies will blow our minds!

I wonder ... Movies like Toy Story. At what resolution were those early CGI movies rendered?
I guess they could easily just re-render them at 1920x1080 in a few days now. That would probably be more cost effective, fast, and easier than going and finding the original rendering and converting it...

i'm not sure you know about the rendering process of 3D animation, it is more than just pressing a button and waiting for the computer to finish. Although rendering each frame may be faster because of faster computers, this would take a long time, there are often post effects process after rendering or multiple render layers that need to be re-configured. Rerendering the movie and matching the sounds and all the effects and cuts and everything would certainly take more than a few days.
I doubt they would need to re-render anything anyway. they rendered out to film (remember it was in a movie theater). Rendering to film is like 2k or 4k resolution which is higher than "HD".

I am glad they are doing this. Now I can meet them in person and ask then when they are going to start releasing movie in HD-DVD. If enough people tell them they want it maybe they will do it. Like they say, "no harm in askin"
