Dragon's Lair coming to HD DVD
More than a year after we first heard it was being remastered in high definition, Digital Leisure has announced plans to release Dragon's Lair on HD DVD. The old laserdisc classic, which already shipped on Blu-ray earlier this year comes to HD DVD August 15th. The 1080p visuals and 5.1 surround of the Blu-ray release are intact, and if that's not enough, it also plans to follow up with future releases of Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II on the Blu-ray and HD DVD formats.

Because there's a game on the disc, it being the first 1080p game for the HD DVD add-on, from what they state.

can this format of game actually ever take off, I know this is an old game, but does anyone think that this could be a new niche of game-film?

No, lol.
The only reason this thing keeps getting released is because it is a cult classic game from the 1980's, and because it was animated by Don Bluth, one of Disney's most famous animators.
In addition, the game is NOT for the HD-DVD add-on on the 360. It will work on any HD-DVD player just like the Blu-Ray version works on any BR Disc player. You control the game with the directional buttons on your players remote control.

Yeah, sorry about that.
I have an add-on and an A2, but yet I find myself talking up the add-on.

I was so disapponted the first time I saw this in my local arcade. I was only a wee lad (13 in 1983), but in 5 seconds I could tell the game was nothing more than well timed joystick pokes, with cinematic animation.
To use another 80's reference...GROSS!
