HBO HD is one of the oldest HD channels; it goes back further than most HD viewers -- including even some of us. But despite getting into the game early,
just like CBS they seem to be dragging their feet now. Sure t
hey're going HD with 26 of their channels in the next year or so, but much of their original programming is still in SD. It's mostly comedies that don't get the HD treatment, but also great shows like
Inside the NFL. We're sure they have plenty of excuses, but we're not hearing 'em. It doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon either; Multichannel news is reporting that
Real Time with Bill Maher just got renewed and a few HBO comedies like
Curb Your Enthusiasm are right around the corner, but there isn't a single mention of HD. So come on HBO, it's past time for 24x7 HD, and while you're at it, stop cropping those movies.

I'm very disappointed with HBO not doing comedies in HD , nor NFL football in HD and the great Drama "The Wire" is also in SD.(Do any of the 4 major Networks broadcast any of their dramas in SD?) The standard networks do a better job than HBO does with HD. How can you consider yourself a premuim channel and not present your programming in HD like the Networks do? I think HBO is the last Network to do a NFL studio show in SD. It's not TV it's HBO..er... 1980's TV.

actually i believe The Wire is done in HD but in a 4:3 aspect ratio as an aesthetic choice.
Bull @ Jul 13th 2007 3:31AM
Too bad no one made an aesthetic choice on your face.

David Simon made the decision to keep "The Wire" in the format they started in 2002 (SD 4:3) to maintain the continuity of the series.

I don't know about anyone else, but I don't accept this reason. Basically what they are saying is, it sucks now, so why change it?

There's nothing left that can't wait for netflix (for me)

I for the life of me can not understand why Inside the NFL is not in HD. Almost all of the games are now produced in HD, I find myself not watching a show that I used to love because I can't bear the pain of watching it in SD.

While I agree, it's important to realize that Inside the NFL uses film from NFL Films, not the feed from CBS, NBC etc. This is the same footage used for the NFL Game of the week that is presented in HD on the NFL network. The more interesting fact is that every NFL game for a very long time (more than 10 years) has been filmed by NFL Films and therefor can be converted to HD.
