Samsung has dropped its "Holidays in July" bomb on the good people of Earth, and within that treasure trove are a few little gems, like the company's new Blu-ray duo, the BD-P2400, and kid sister BD-P1400. Both players feature Blu-ray playback at native HD resolution (1080p / 1080i / 720p), handle HD video at 1920 x 1080, and up-convert standard DVDs to 1080p via HDMI. The BD-P2400 also utilizes Samsung's "
Hollywood Quality Video", which rocks some proprietary de-interlacing that makes
Pirates of the Caribbean look really, really real. The player's audio does the regular rounds with stereo and 5.1, coaxial and optical digital outs, and Dolby Digital Plus with DTS HD and MP3 playback.; for video you get HDMI, component, S-Video and composite outs. The BD-P2400 will be available in October for $649, and the BD-P1400 in September for $549.

lol@ Will
These things sound great, but why do they have to look like my third-hand Goldstar VCR from college? Can I assume the missing TrueHD is a mistake, and these will be BD+ compliant???

Do they support BD profile 1.1? If not, they're already garbage in my book.

****ing hilarious, Will. I LMAO.
Seriously though, if these do not have 1.1 plus a net port - then most of us will be sticking with the somewhat future proof PS3.
I guess, if these are their summer slate then there might be a winter line-up as well? A new thread I saw on another forum had people predicting that a good, full & final-spec BD standalone under $300 street would be available by the end of December - I hope that's true...

No True HD support?

HQV means that it has a Silicon Optix chip. Either the Reon or Realta processor. These are very high end scalars and deinterlacers. So no, it's not just some gimic. You can read up on it here.

I don't give a damn about PIP and other gimmicks, I just want the best sound & picture possible.
Think about it, after the newness wears off how often do you use PIP and the other usless crap designers incorporate into these machines. They should use the time&resources toward improving the machines intended function which is to produce half-ass decent picture and sound.
