Did you ever have to pay out of your nose for DVD's? Cause last time I checked, DVD didn't have to compete with a similar format. You cannot consider formats a monopoly and competition with formats only hurt the consumer. ONE format is best for consumers because it eliminates the confusion of two formats and will be adopted quicker. The more people buy the format, the cheaper it becomes to manufacture, lowering prices. Economies of scale. DVD players and movies became cheaper and cheaper over time. When I first started buying DVD movies they were upwards of $30-$35. Now new releases go for around $15, and end up at $7 after about 2 months.
