Comcast certifes TiVo's OCAP software
In a statement that makes us scream, it's about time, Comcast has certified TiVo's OCAP software. The two companies originally announced an agreement over two years ago. TiVo was giving tours at CES and has been testing for some time, but there is still no word on when customers can expect to see the service. This is going to be a good indicator of what we can expect from the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP) that CableLabs is promoting. We can also finally find out if it is the hardware or the software that motivates so many to complain about their DVR.

Ben, I thought you read my blog. ;-) Initial consumer (aka non-testing) deployments of the TiVo OCAP software on Comcast boxes is scheduled for August in the Boston area, southeast MA, and parts of NH:

I have Comcast's current DVR on a Motorola box. It works ok, but for some reason it WILL NOT record HBO-HD. Do you know how upset that gets me on any given Sunday night? I hope the TIVO works better. Comcast and the other cable cos could have buried TIVO years ago with a little bit of insight, but hey Tivo was a revolutionary product and maybe they deserved to live on.
