I'm still going to sit firmly on this fence. Okay, I get to watch movies in high-def. Okay. That's still not enough to make me fork out some $500 for what is in effect a glorified DVD player. Sorry, that's not enough.
No, I'm not dissing any HD format in and of itself. I have no problems with either BR or HD-DVD. But when I can go out and buy a progressive scan player for less than $100 that will still look good and sound good, I can't justify an additional $400 not only to gain some extra resolution but also to start re-purchasing my favorite movies *again*!! I'm starting to feel like the DVD industry is taking after George Lucas. ;)

If you can't or just dont value the difference in picture quality when comparing the difference between an hd formatted disc and a standard dvd, then by all means, more power to you. but for a lot of the people out there, again this is gonna differ from person to person, the difference in picture quality is enough for me to say i will not buy another dvd again. since the inception of the blu ray and hd-dvd formats i have not bought a single dvd which is unusual for me because i used to buy anywhere from 1-3 a month. the only dvds i've bought have been superman returns on blu ray, and planet earth also on blu ray.
and just to make sure that i'm on the same page as everyone, as far as the final spec for blu ray which is to be finalized this october, the only thing that's really changing is the interactivity right? i mean, the menus and special features, internet connectivity and a form of onboard memory...
if some people like myself only buy dvds to watch the movie, but dont really care about playing online games with it and dumb stuff like that...isn't the current spec, along w/ the current players more than enough?
