JVC designs tiny 4k D-ILA chip
JVC announced at InfoComm 2007 a 1.27-inch 4K2K D-ILA chip for use in projectors that offer up more than four times high-definition resolution. Intended initially for medical, modeling, and simulation use, the chip can produce a ten-megapixel 4096x2400 pixel image with a 20,000:1 contrast ratio. While DLP-based Edit: Texas Instruments informs me that they do not offer any 4K DLP cinema projectors, only 2K (1080p).

"We say bring on the quad-split-screen HD!"
Like what you can get from the Sony SXRD 4K projectors that have been around for 18 months or so already?

A correction on the OP.. DLP is limited to 2K, the projectors out there (Christie, Barco, NEC) are all 2K projectors. The only 4K projector is the Sony which is SXRD (nee LCOS) based, not DLP.
To Aaron Lucas. The Sony projector is only 2000:1 contrast (measured less than that calibrated) and it is not very bright, its rated aggresively for 40ft screens which is not nearly big enough for true cinema applications. The JVC chip offers 20,000:1 contrast (10x the sony) and offers an opportunity for someone to build a cheaper, brighter, higher contrast DCI (dcinema) projector.
