Samsung's gettin' busy this morning in Korea with the launch of their 70-inch Full HD LCD television. Not only is it the
world's largest commercially available LCD, this 1080p pup also brings a
120Hz refresh along with
Samsung's local dimming LED backlighting solution for a reported 500,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio... for whatever that measurement's worth. The LN70F91BD is another
ACAP packer featuring 3x HDMI 1.3 terminals and a USB 2.0 jack for purposes unknown. Available in S.Korea
only at the moment with worldwide sales starting in the second half of the year. Only ?59,000,000 for the privilege which translates to about $63k or €48k -- chump-change for culturally ambiguous superstars.

So only people that shop for TVs in formal wear will be able to afford this eh?
Damn that thing is nice though...

What about it makes it so expensive? Is it the LED backlighting, or do LCD displays REALLY jump in price after the ~55" size?
TDG01 @ Jun 14th 2007 12:54PM
@mattydread....
Good question.....how do you go from 5-6k for a sweet 52" to 60k for a 70"???
I've been waiting for a 60"+ LCD, but there's no way this makes any sense....then again, it's probably not supposed to....

Do you think it's cheap to get fine Asian tail like that? No way! It's expensive and necessary to showcase your new TV. A release from LG without a fine looking Asian model is like driving a Ford. You want to be excited about it ... but somehow it's just not right.

Aw, Samsung. Meh? Same goes for LG as does Samsung. :-D

"Not only is it the world's largest commercially available LCD,"
False
Sony beat them to the punch quite a while ago
"KDL-70XBR3 " http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11040914
Te Sony also costs 1/2 a much. Still making it unafforable. It was one of the first LED backlit displays on the market.
I've seen the Sony display in person it is quite fantastic. I imagine the Samsnug would look just as good.
mike @ Jun 14th 2007 5:21PM
The samsung is actually much better then the sony display. Samsung has local dimming while the sony does not. That is why its twice the cost of the sony. Either way, I wouldent spend even 33k on a tv. I could get a fully featured Car for less then that.

Sharp has a 65" LCD that is currently in stores and sells for $10,000. I bet it will drop to $8-9,000 on sale or as a permanent price drop before too long.
warriorwthn @ Jun 20th 2007 1:16PM
BIGGEST???????????????
there is already a frickin 72 inch LCD out (SONY).
Samsung really needs to stop using the word "world's first"......cuz its normally not true.

Does the BD-UP5000 qualify for the BluRay and the HD-DVD free movie promotions? I just pre ordered for $999.00, the 10 Free hi-def flicks might offset the price impact. I have not found any offers or rebate anywhere. I would appreciate any information from anyone that knows about any rebates.
