Sony is a VERY reputable company. Why would Sony not want to give its early Blu-ray adaptors the "latest and greatest" firmware update? Class act Sony.

From what I've read on the manufacturing of the BDPS1 vs. the BDPS300, the original is geared more towards the video- and audio-philes, with separate video and audio boards for better clarity on both fronts. The second is obviously meant to break into the less-expensive market, but I doubt they'll stop making the BDPS1 for a while.

sony took the firmware off its server. i was able to download it but i am afraid to use it as there might be bugs. has anyone tried the firmware?

The firmware is back up again. It's the same file as before.

I think its great that Sony and the other Blu-ray/ HD DVD hardware manufacturers continue to provide firmware upgrades. That way, even though they do pay more, early adopters don't feel screwed every time a new model comes out.

I own the BDP-S1 and love it!
I opted for "send by mail" option and Sony had me a disk within 2 days at my door. The upgrade was very very fast and totally automated. Just put in the disk and take it out once you get the message (player window) to do so.

I have the PS1 and just placed an order for the PS300. I am hoping that the newer model has quicker than 5-10 minute load times for certain titles - Pirates of the Carribean? Has anyone else experienced this nonsense?
