Comcast to add Food HD, HGTV HD and A&E HD
We received some tips from readers in the Boston area that Comcast has added Food HD, HGTV HD and A&E HD to the HD lineup. This is usually a good indicator that all Comcast customers will be enjoying these channels soon, but there is no official word. This is turning out to be the year for new HD channels, so we hope that these will be available to everyone, along with all the rest of the new channels announced for this year, that at least DirecTV will be carrying after their new birds are operational.[Thanks Bob!]
**Update** According to Multi-channel news it is now official. They will add the new channels to every Comcast area that has the available bandwidth.

I've had A&E HD on Comcast for about a month. I'm in Atlanta.

What's the definition of "soon"? Comcast Loudoun, VA hasn't added only a couple HD channels in the past 2 years: PBS-HD over a year ago, and Golf/VS HD a couple months ago. I'm still scratching my head as to how Golf/VS was added before Comcast SportsNet (Mid Atlantic) HD after the takeover. You would think that Comcast would be able to add a Comcast property (CSN-HD) to one of its systems, especially if it has the capability to add other channels in the mean time.

South Florida has had A&E HD for a month or so, but the addition of Food Network is nice.
How about FX, Comedy Central, CNN, History Channel, Discovery Channels (not Discovery HD Theater, but Military channel, etc)??
Alex @ May 21st 2007 4:54PM
and Time Warner will add..........nothing

I've had A&E HD via Qam for several months but not via my Comcast box (Wash DC). Has anyone else had this occur? I also getting my local MyTV Hd station the same way. Puzzling

Comcast in the SF Bay Area just recently added our local CW in HD, A&E HD, and National Geographic HD. No word of other channels, but the more the merrier! They may be adding according to what they feel geographic areas watch more of?

A&E HD, oh you men AINT no HD? I'm sorry, but 90% of what I've seen on A&E HD is SD. Even the reruns of HD shows look crappy. So what's the point? THe first HD channel I actually wish I didn't have, I hate scrolling by it.
Dominic @ May 21st 2007 7:07PM
yeah, A&E HD, I have yet to see a show that's actual HD footage. It seems we have better odds of getting c-span in HD.

Here in Fresno, we received a notice in the mail of the same thing, along with a few other channels being repositioned.

I've had A&E HD for about a month now on Comcast. I'm in eastern Kansas.
MacDonaldJ2 @ May 21st 2007 8:53PM
I just noticed that myself, and I am in Boston, Food HD is channel 854, A&E HD is channel 837 and HGTV HD is channel 832

Comcast is playing catchup (good luck with that).
FiOS has had these for a long time.
I'm so glad I recently switched.
Phour ZwanZig @ May 21st 2007 10:26PM

mroach @ May 21st 2007 11:06PM
Yeah, I'm in Boston and I can confirm this. I'm lovin' Food Network HD.
darciron @ May 21st 2007 11:44PM
In fairness, it should've been noted that Dish has had these channels for a loong time. No offense to the Comcast folks, but I love telling my DirectTV subscribing friends when a new channel comes online. Ryan

Funny. The article didn't mention that DISH (Echostar) already carries ALL of these channels that you say Direct TV will carry when (if) they launch their sat.
Matt @ May 22nd 2007 8:10AM
This is great and all, but I need National Geographic HD from Comcast.
alexpacin @ May 23rd 2007 9:13AM
Comcast is already carrying National Geographic HD here in Atlanta.
Steve @ May 22nd 2007 9:30AM
I noticed them on my Boston Comcast cable box over the weekend. There were 3 messages on the box this morning about the 3 new channels as well.
Greg @ May 22nd 2007 11:07AM
My local Comcast (Mobile, AL) doesn't even carry the local FOX network affiliate in HD, though the channel is available OTA. Why don't we get the major networks before we worry about niche channels like "Food?"
Ben @ May 22nd 2007 10:56AM
Greg,
If only life were that simple.

Thank you, Ben. I'm smarter for having followed your link.

As much as I'm excited to see Giada DeLaurentis and Alton Brown in HD, my interest is tempered by the fact that I won't be able to record the program with a my MythTV box. Congress needs to prohibit encryption on all non-premium cable channels.
Tbone4690 @ May 23rd 2007 2:32PM
South Jersey has NGC and A&E in HD no Food Network yet.
