HDNet to step up their productions to 4k with help from Red Digital Cameras
HDNet holds a special place in our hearts because it was one of the first 24 hour HD channels, and back in the old school days of HD, it was either that or the PBS loop. Sure we watched that same PBS loop over and over again too, but HDNet always had the better programming and most of the time better quality. It appears that Mark Cuban wants to continue to set the bar high and has announced that he has already pre-ordered a few of those new 4k Red Digital Cameras that it seems everyone can't stop talking about. The reason there is so much buzz about these new cameras is because they record at 4520x2540 and offer professional quality at a fraction of the cost, sure they still cost $17,500, but evidently that is less than current Hollywood grade digital cameras can be rented for today. "4520 X 2540 pixels... DATA TO BURN. At the heart of RED lives the 12-megapixel Mysterium CMOS sensor, Super 35mm sized, with unparalleled fidelity and flexibility.
It combines low noise with superior charge capacity for dynamic range and color fidelity that allows you to finally have a no excuse option to 35mm film. "

The camera body costs $17,500. But all the necessary add-ons bring the total to over $30k. That said, it still looks incredible.

The most exciting thing about this camera is how it is going to drastically accelerate the trickle down markets, eventually including the non-prosumer camcorder market. I'll wager this camera is sending shockwaves through the industry, and they will be forced to stop dragging heels if they want to have a piece of a pie which will be 100% RED for a while. Maybe it will even mean that we consumers won't have to be satisfied with 25mbps 1080i60 for who knows how long. I know I'm not.

If I could get a buck for everyone who has posted that this is all marketing lies and no such camera does or every could exist, I could bloody well but one (with a lens!).

i want one of these cams for film production for myself. cause its so much cheaper than other digital 35MM cams, its not as good as 35mm film but pretty damn freakin close.

Whatever happened to those 4k Sony Projectors that Mark Cuban bought a few years ago?
They were supposed to be installed in his Landmark Theater chain but I've not seen them or heard about them since the story about his purchase a while back.
