Hey Blu-ray, where did Fox go?
In all the fuss about the possibility of Universal going format neutral, commenter h0mi made a great point; Where are those Fox Blu-ray titles again? So we headed over to Hi-Def Digest to take a look at what titles Fox has in store for us and what do you know, they didn't have any, thats right, not one title with a release date. What is even more interesting is that the last title from Fox (Other than Night at the Museum and Eragon) was released on February 13th, which happens to be about the same time as the AACS hardware key was discovered. Conspiracy theories aside, we want to know what happened to all those great titles we were promised during CES when Fox was touting how great Blu-ray sales were going to be this year.

I remember reading quite a ways back that it was thought FOX pulled their Blu-Ray movies for this exact reason. They were waiting for better protection in the form of Blu-Ray Disc+ before they were going to release many of the movies they had promised. They have not completely stopped releasing movies(Night at the Museum), but until there is better protection they are holding many of their titles back. At this point, the thought is that they are not going to jump to HD-DVD because they can't offer the level of protection that BD+ is supposed to offer. I wonder if BD+ gets hacked,if they will stop releasing movies all together.

yeah, DVDFile.com reported that Fox pulled their titles because of the AACS breach, but they didn't have any proof of it, either, just speculation due to the timing coincidence.

Yeah, I said that too, here, way back when. It's not like HD sales are such that Fox cares all that much. Remember, Murdoch is the evil high priest of DRM.

I beleive the last Fox release was actually Night at the Museum, which was just released on April 24th.

Fox has been having replication issues.
Wouldn't be shocked if they also decided to spend a little more time and $$$ getting better transfers of some of those catalog titles.

Reading the same article that you saw on hidefdigest asking where all the Fox movies have gone all the way through would have gotten you the same information that others have posted about Fox waiting for BD+.

Also it might be good to point out..A Night at the Museum was the top selling HiDef movie the week of april 29th http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/questex/hom050607/index.php?startpage=10 FOX helped develped BD+, they aren't going anywhere with BD erasing HDDVD's SI lead in one quarter, and holding the market steady at around 70% going on 5 months now.

David, you can simply ignore the titles and dates if you wish. But if the turn out to be correct then just remember where you read about it first.

Those are Canadian dollar MSRP. Like most MSRP amounts they are way above a typical street price.

So M$ and Intel aren't conglomerates? Intel invented HDCP btw! Plus only Pirates care about BD+. Piracy will kill the movie industry, and we will all be forced to watch crappy you tube movies forever!!!

I have watched this new HD format war from the beginning and it all comes down to which studio will release the blockbuster movies with the least amount of restrictions? NOTE TO FOX: I WILL NOT BUY STARWARS ON BD!
I used to sell electronics for years and that taught me to never trust Sony or their deceitful news releases! I cannot tell you how many times they sent us bogus reports on sales figures and falsehoods about thier products. I have watched several of thier "proprietary formats" fail. It seems most people have forgotten Minidisc, DAT, Betamax, thier walkmans that only played THIER formats(luckily they lost money and have switched to MP3), and I am only scratching the surface. People that buy the standalone players are the ones most inclined to buy the movies. Dont forget that!

Here is what I think. If you work in the film industry, you will know that Fox and Disney are Nazi's! Believe me when I say, Fox and Disney will MILK you for your money. That means, paying crew members low wages to make blockbusters, using extreme DRM measures, and supporting the most expensive next gen format. Fox esspecially is natorius for protecting there content. Nothing wrong with that so long as you dont intrude on the persons right to freely watch or make back up copies of there content. BD+ is going to start a brand new war with hackers, like all DRM, it will fail. Leading Fox to analyze why they are supporting a format that cant beat hackers. Another issue is, what happens if BD+ causes the consumer headaches, well, 1 thing is for sure, it will make the local news in a heartbeat, lawsuits will fly left and right, and Blu Ray will quickly become publicly known as the ANTI consumer friendly product. I love HD-DVD, it provides the same picture and sound quality and the menus are awsome. There are things about Blu Ray I like, mainly the capacity and use of LPCM, but it doesnt justify the studios to only support the most expensive format making it harder for regular people to break into HD home theater. Bottom line, I do hope Blu Ray fails, I do not believe in extreme DRM, there is a boundary these studios must respect and Blu Ray is attempting to cross those boundaries.
