The FiOS fun just isn't in Florida anymore. Those
three new HD stations that randomly appeared on some people's lineup are now nationwide. The addition of HGTV, Food Network, and LMN (Lifetime Movie Network) brings their HD lineup to a boastful 27 stations. While
Comcast and
TWC are turning off their analog streams to make theoretical room for new HD stations, and ticking off more than just a few people by doing so, Verizon is slowly but surely adding national high-def stations. Fiber-optic has quite a bit of room thanks to a totally digital stream but unfortunately, it's not available everywhere just yet.

I been thinking about switching from Time Warner to FioS. Anyone have it? Is the internet speed noticeably faster?

OMG You can get FiOS and are still thinking about it? Get this thing NOW!!! We still can't get it in my neighborhood thanks to Scamcast and TimeWarmer.

...only if you consider 2-3x faster "noticeably," heh.

Hell, I wish I could get FiOS TV! I got FiOS 15/2 several months ago, but the PA legislature, no doubt bribed^Wencouraged by Philadelphia-based Comcast, denied Verizon a state-wide license to provide FiOS TV. Verizon now has to negotiate with each of the 660+ municipalities within Pennsylvania in order to provide a TV over fibre. F**king Scamcast.

Whoops! Sorry about the double post, folks!

FIOS TV is great. Have had it since it's been available here in the DFW area.
The DVR software is not that great but the PQ is great. Waiting for that new DVR software to come out.
BlueOrder @ Apr 24th 2007 10:32AM
Oh, about FIOS data. I have the 15/2 Mb package and the download is nice but you really notice the upload.

I have had Fios Internet and TV for a little while now. It is amazingly fast, and the picture quality of the HD broadcasts are noticeably better than commcast. The internet really opens up. Its not perfect, as BlueOrder pointed out, the DVR needs an update, and there is no HD on demand.
The installation is a little messy as well, as they have to bury a new cable, and install a battery backup (for the phone) inside your house.
Lifetime Movies is a new stretch-0-vision upcoverting channel. It shouldn't be considered HD. For HD movies, stick with HDnet

Actually, Verizon only has to bury the cable if your existing cable is buried. Most new homes are built that way. Fortunately, my house was built in the 1950s and has the telephone pole at the end of my backyard. The tech ran the fibre cable right from the pole to the house. When I said that I thought they'd have to dig up the yard, he said that they way that houses currently get their copper connection is how they get their fibre connection.

FiOS isn't Florida at all! I'm in Orlando and nada fios here. You should say FiOS isn't just in Tampa rather than looping the remaining 100 or so cities in the state with Tampa.

I'm in Manhattan; 3 blocks from the damn EPSB, and still no Fios. This is like the most densely populated place in the country.. why no fios?

- FiOS can't travel up high buildings, thats why they are in Staten Island and not NYC.
