MHD is great but....

There is that one stupid commercial that is at least 13db higher than anything else is on the station. Hate it. All the commercial is about advertising is that you are in fact watching MHD for three seconds but those three seconds will blow your speakers if you were already jamming to some music. We are hoping that someone over at MTV's headquarters will read this and go tell the tech to turn down the level on the MHD spot that plays every 45 minutes. The HD MTV station is a nice compliment to any HD tier with 100% HD content, but it's that one commercial that is going to make us change the channel.

It's also against FCC regulations, which are fairly specific about dB differentials between programming and advertising.

It's funny that you think the FCC has some sort of jurisdiction over a cable tv channel.

I was looking so forward to having MHD when it was announced, and I finally got it a couple of months ago, and I watched several shows on it the first week it was out, including the MTV Video awards, Storytellers, etc. IT WAS AWESOME...
Then I realized that after the first week I had seen EVERYTHING the channel had!! I like the music shows, but why not just show one a week and show...hmm I don't know MUSIC VIDEOS the rest of the time. Just doing that would create constantly updated evolving content for the channel, causing more people to tune in just as the original MTV gained viewers. There seem to be plenty of videos to show when I stay up and watch them late night. One night I had people over and it was great background music w/ HD video, who could ask for more!!

I too looked forward to MHD. I was completely disappointed with the volume of original programming. Shows are repeated every few days at best. The late night music video segments repeat the same dozen or so videos each night. It isn't uncommon to see a video played twice within the same hour. A few of the videos are wide-screen but not high definition (ex. James Blunt's - High). MTV's commitment to HD content has been very disappointing.

This channel is such a disappointment. Scrap it and get a real music/concert channel, or play more music videos.

Yeah I think they haven't gotten any new music videos on that channel for over a half of a year (possibly almost a year now) I used to like this channel when they had new music videos, but I haven't seen a new one in forever. Yeah you could definitely watch everything this channel has to offer in a week or less for sure.

I like the channel a lot. They do repeat stuff often, but I like having it to switch to while I'm watching something else during commercials...
My only major beef is that half the shows only have 2-ch. audio also. WTFM8? Why have a Hi-Def music channel with 2-ch audio??

I notice many channels that do this. Fox is the first one that comes to mind.

I totally agree! Maybe they jacked the volume level from all the terrible Mitsubishi TV ads that they run on there...

Of course the FCC has jurisdiction over cable. Cable is clearly interstate commerce, after all, and the federal government has jurisdiction to regulate interstate commerce. The only thing the FCC can't do to Cable is regulate *content*.
