Amazon selling Samsung's Blu-ray player on the cheap
Pssst. Hey you. Yeah you buddy. Wanna cheap Blu-ray player? Amazon is selling Samsung's BD-P1000 for a mere $499. While we still don't know what side is going to walk away from this whole war thing, less then five hundard dollars seems a bit easier on the pocketbook to enjoy movies on your HDTV even if the format doesn't last forever. So if using the PS3 as a Blu-ray player doesn't interest you but you still want a cheap Blu-ray player, this offer might fit the bill.[Thanks, Nate]

How come this deserves it's own article but the Toshiba HD-A2 that Amazon has for $356 isn't mentioned? The sales rank of the cheap Toshiba has shot up to #76 since the price cut.

It is probably because the HD DVD players are cheap already. 100 buck off is not as much of a story as a unit with a $800 retail price going for $499.
IMO, HD DVD is not worth the price anymore. Any price for a dying format is too much to pay.

It's still too early to say either is winning or losing, who knows, as long as this format war possibly could take both could come out winning if dual format players can drop in price enough to at least come within inches of the pricing of either single format player. Personally I'm tired of people getting so worked up over the outcome of this HD movie war, I just want to get an HD movie in some format and put it a machine and watch the movie. My ideal player would play HD DVD/Blu-ray/DVD/VCD... as well as being a network Xvid/DivX player to play the movies stored on my computers hard drive in the other room.

It also has to be totally silent.
If you're just throwing ideas out, I'd really like it, your universal media player, to be buit into my Halo player. (why call it anything else when that's all it does)
Actually, I guess I just need to figure out a way to put a combo (HDDVD and BRD) drive in my halo player (xbox1). That would pretty much solve the whole deal wouldn't it.

For all of those Bluray fans out there who think, more expensive is better (Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer), Phillips and Amazon appears to be the Bentley of Bluray players!

Not for nothing but last time I heard all first gen bluray players especially this one have a lot of problems. No thanks, I'll just stay with HD DVD.

also this player won't be able to have any of the BDJ functionality when it is ever finished.
