This is some interesting timing for this news. Last night I was trying to search the Internet for some sort of reliable source about whether or not the PS3 will upscale DVDs. I was under the impression that since it was also a Blu-ray player that it would upscale DVDs by default (apparently this is not the case).
I would like to second the comment about how the PS3 should also upscale PS and PS2 games. I think one gripe Sony has consistently failed in their pledge for backwards compatibility is their lack of making it all look good in HD. I think that if Sony were to do something like this, that $600 box that seems grossly overpriced would quickly be picked up by myself and friends.
