A completely useless article.

I'm shopping for a new TV, and I have to say, after all my hours & hours of research, I've found that the more I learn & the deeper I get into the details, the more confusing & frustrating it gets. And just when you think you've found the best choice for your situation & your needs, you learn something new, or you read reviews on AVSforum, or you see a new price cut, or a new model is set to be released next month, or you hear about banding or ghosting issues, and on & on... The best thing to do? Learn the basics, consider your peripherals, viewing habits, the lighting in your home, and your viewing distance. Narrow your choices down to a half dozen, read some *owners'* reviews, cut your choices in half, then buy the one with the best price. After that, never, ever, ever read another thing about TVs until you're ready to buy again!

Scott

Comments on LCD Vs Plasma in 2007

In defense of the author, I read the post as an attempt to spark a debate about which flat panel format is currently superior. He wasn't intending to compare LCD or Plasma against CRT, DLP or LCOS. If this post had been written two years ago then Plasma would have been the clear winner. Today that can be debated.

I would personally rather buy a 1366x768 LCD than a comparably priced 1024x768 plasma. I finally settled on the Sony KDS60A2000, which I picked up at Circuit City for $2099 the week of the Super Bowl. The silkscreen effect is distracting, but at $500 less and 14" larger than the 46" LCD, I can live with it.

JET

JET

Comments on LCD Vs Plasma in 2007

I'd just like to comment on you idiots who seemingly have nothing better to do than say things like "completely useless article". Plasmas are as close as you can get to a CRT for viewing angle and color. LCDs are and still look backlit. Perhaps LED backlit LCDs will make them look better, but they still won't equal a good plasmas. And then there's rear project which isn't even in the same league as panel technologies.

And I agree with "c" (nice name). Why do people still claim that plasmas are susceptible to burn-in? They are no more susceptible than a CRT and no one ever lists burn-in as a problem with those. Burn-in on a plasma is a thing of the past, it just doesn't happen anymore, at least on a good panel. Also, those same people would claim that plasmas lose brightness over time. While this is true, the service life of a typical plasma is 60,000 hours. That's 20 years at 8 hours a day. Is that not good enough for you? And after that, the TV is still good, it's just not as bright. CRTs do the exact same thing. And unless you've been watching your plasma at full brightness for those 20 years, all you have to do is turn up the brightness to counter the fade.

Loban

Comments on LCD Vs Plasma in 2007

for me, its all about lcd.
