We all had high hopes that
SED TVs wouldn't become another case of "what could have been," but unfortunately for everyone, things aren't looking too bright right about now. Last we heard,
Canon was reportedly
all set to buy out Toshiba's display stake, theoretically squashing Nano-Proprietary's
claim that licensing agreements would be breached if
Tosh remained
in the mix, but it seems that things just can't be so easy. A federal judge has now ruled that Canon "violated its agreement with Texas-based Nano-Proprietary by forming a joint television venture with Toshiba," and while "damages still need to be determined," it's fairly clear who will come out
the victor in this scenario. Still, this just appears to be yet another snag in the development of new nanotube sets, and while we should all just be used to it by now, that glimmer of hope that Canon and Nano-Proprietary "could now develop a new licensing agreement" is still (currently) alive.

That really blows. I was looking forward to this great new tech. I hope cooler heads can hammer out a new agreement so that we, the consumers, can can gain this level of TV.

If the technology is worth something, ie, it works at a reasonable price, we'll see it. Everybody in the deal wants to make money and will figure out how to do it.

By the time SED hits the market, Plasma will look so good and be so affordable, noone will care anymore.

Loban...i somewhat agree with you. Kinda dumb on their part...woulda been a great competitor for plasma/lcd. from what i remember, only reason they it really hasn't come to market sooner was the price, but now that legal woes are being thrown into the mix...
well, lets just say plasmas are getting cheaper and cheaper every year, consuming less power, not burning in as easily as older generation models....and then you have lcds which are getting better and better at larger sized tvs, doing real blacks instead of dark grays, and getting cheaper too. by the time they get something out, it may be too late

And what about a SED display with real black and a 100.000:1 contrast ratio in 55" at the same prize of a last generation 42" plasma?
