The reason Universal is a big supporter is because they can rake in a lot of money easily.
They release 80+ percent of the HD-DVD titles, so, early adopters will more than likely end up buying a few Universal titles. Consumers really dont have a choice if they want to stock their library.
And, when BD takes over, they can make even more money by taking those HD-DVD isos and stamping them on BDs (no need to re-encode).
