I really like the player, but I'd like to add these to the cons list:

* DVD drive is a high-speed PC drive and makes a lot of noise. This is the most serious disadvantage of the device. Normal DVD players make no sound at all and one would expect this kind of hi-tech device to do it too.

* DRM protected WMV and H.264 (MPEG4) are not supported because Sigma Designs EM8620L Chipset does not support them. Sigma Design, however, has a chip, which supports these.

* Picture slideshow has a 5 seconds fade-to-black transition, which cannot be removed or speed up no matter how fast the pre-scaled pictures a transferred from PC.

* Remote control really sucks. Buttons may stuck down and you have to point directly to the device withing a few meters.

* Web browser is totally useless partially because of the lack of Flash player. Flash player and Firefox port to the platform would make the browser perfect and increase greatly the value of the device. USB keyboard would also be great.

The included server software really sucks, but an open source alternative WizD is great.

Tapz

Comments on Engadget HD Review: NeoDigits X5000 Networkable DVD player

Could you add a list of (at least some of) the video formats/containers you played successfully with this device?
