Some people need
bigger and
better LCDs, but we're just fine with the 27-inch prototype Sony
mentioned during its press conference yesterday. With a contrast ratio of greater than 1,000,000:1 (not a misprint) to go with its 1080p resolution, and >100% NTSC color reproduction, we'll take this Organic LED great looks in a small package any day. We promised to hunt it down on the show floor and so we did, finding it hiding amongst a rookery of 11-inch displays. Take a look at the gallery for a few more shots of this HDTV and hope it hits shelves someday.

WOW what a kewl concept! but does sony really need to advertise a one million to one contrast ratio? How releavent can it be? I look at TV's all day and there is a slim difference between 2000:1 and a 10000:1. They should be advertising the 100% image gamet! That is an incredible step up from the XBR lines that only use a remarkable 92%!!!!

This is why I don't want to buy an HDTV right now. If SED and OLED are just around the corner, it may be more worth it to wait.
Has Sony figured out how to make long-life Blue OLEDs, though? If those blues still only get 5,000 hours of life, I may pass, since I'd want something that lasted longer than 5 years.

As far as I know, it's only BLUE OLEDs that are of concern.
Red and Green have now passed the 60,000 hour lifespan mark. (wahooo!!!) :)
So it's only the BLUE oled bulbs. But I think that by next year, it will already be within the 60k range. (considering how fast the labs have gotten red and green to 60k hours)

I know that Sony's OLED display is still a few years away. I also heard that we might not see any SED displays since Canon is trying to buy patent rights from toshiba
