I don't really see a difference between 1080i and 1080p really at all. So, with that as my preference, and I would venture to say there are a few people that agree with me- I'd go for an hd set with a really nice picture in 720p/1080i for a decent price (around $1,200) than pay $1,900 (let's face it, if it's below $2k then that's what they mean) for a well priced set with an okay picture. I don't know, maybe it's just me...

I just bought a Sony KDF-50E2000 50-inch Rear Projection HDTV for $1,087 from Overstock.com and it has an amazing picture, a crap load of inputs and was wicked cheap- and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I'm still getting used to the smaller size, but the picture quality is OUTSTANDING! I'm very picky, I felt even my 65-inch DLP had "GOOD" quality. I work in the video production industry and was blown away by how great the Vizio 1080P 47-inch LCD looks - DVDs look great and Blueray is OUTSTANDING.

My only drawbacks for the monitor are the extremly small text size used for all onscreen menus (was probably fine on a lower res LCD, but not large enough on a 1920x1080), and I'm also experiencing the common Vizio speaker buzz problem. I've emailed their tech support to see what the best solution is - I'd prefer not to take back the screen due to its weight and now being unboxed.

I paid the full $1899 for the screen and feel I got a great value. I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for an LCD screen in the sub-50 inch range, or for anyone who has a bright room and needs a bright screen (beats DLP Projectors hands down, sharper then a Plasma), or anyone who is a stickler for high quality images. Sit back and watch a basic DVD thru even the component input and you'll be blown away!

James

Comments on Vizio readies its sub-$2000 47-inch 1080p LCD TV

Every "expert" on here seems to miss some important points ....the human eye will not be able to tell much of a differance between a 1080i and a 1080p (or even a 720p or a 1080p) when the viewer is more than a certain distance..the rule is if you are sitting away from the screen more than 5 times the picture height, then you don't need 1080p.
