Xbox Live Marketplace vs HD DVD comparison

Jake Ludington has written up a comparison between the Xbox Life Marketplace and HD DVD. Because of the limited titles available at the Marketplace, the only title available for both is V for Vendetta. He wasn't able to see the difference between the two so he captured both to his PC at 720p and compared them. Although this is less than ideal, the results are still interesting. The only real difference he noticed was in the blacks, while HD DVD was able to display true blacks, the Marketplace version was not. There is no doubt that the Marketplace videos look great, but we are most disappointed that he didn't mention the difference in the sound. HD DVD obviously excels in this area since it isn't limited to Dolby Digital. A three way comparison between the Marketplace the HD DVD add-on and the stand alone HD DVD player would be even more interesting.

Im not sure how meaningful (if at all) the comparison was since its flawed from the beginning.
A natively 1920x1080 picture down-converted to 1280x720 compared with a native 1280x720 picture is almost pointless since a lot of the data for the 1080 content would have been lost while the 720 content never would have had them to begin with.
Another way of thinking about it is to take an HD program, down convert it to 480p and compare it with a 480p DVD youll be hard pressed to see much of a difference between the two although there would definitely be a difference if compared without the down sampling of the HD program.

If you think that a 25 GIG 1080P movie looks the same as a 5 GIG 720P movie then well.... (enter some smart remark here).
It doesnt even deserve debate. It it simply an outragous claim.
If you want to rent a movie that looks way better than a DVD and have great convenience to it and is small enough to get in a resonable ammount of time and easier to store that is fine. But dont try to say that it is as good as 1080P. Compare them on a 60" SXRD 1080P display and then we will talk.

Its like comparing the sound quality of an iTunes download and SACD... by COMPRESSING the SACD tracks or playing them through your pack-n, iPod earbuds.

Im beginning to think that you are paid by Sony to post on message boards (as someone already suggested before). Either that or you have a blind fanboy love. Most of your posts do not carry any sort of believability, sense, or logic.
Maybe you should actually read the article that Engadget actually linked to get the whole story before leaving such a comment.

$20 bucks say Dave doesn't own a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player. He just likes making decisions based on a few articles he read on line.
He sounds most stupid when he says HD-DVD is "bad". Neither format is bad. They both offer phanominial picture and sound, and lots of other great features that make them much better than DVD. I prefer HD-DVD since it's more affordable.

Most, if not all, of his comments really show his knowledge (or more appropriately lack of) when it comes to these formats.

Did you even bother to read the article that was linked to from engadget hd?
Maybe I should paraphrase and change it so that even you can understand basically lets say we take a Blu ray movie, down-convert it (from 1080p) to 720p and compare it to a 720p HD download we end up not seeing much of a difference. Now is that experiment really fair or even meaningful? No, its not.
As for your link, you can add that to the dozens of similar blog posts out on the web, its as credible as your comments. Not to mention its a rehash of what BDA supports have been saying since the be beginning. None of the points mentioned have, thus far, helped Blu ray in any meaningful.

If thats you from the gearlog.com page, you really are a fanboy. 2-3 HD DVD movies on one Blu ray disc for less the price? What world do you live in and are you really THAT delusional? As it is now, with the 20 extra GB of storage space they STILL cant get one movie on that disc that surpasses whats available by HD DVD (at best its a equal).

Maybe you should actually read what I post instead of just counting the number of times I post. I try to stay as neutral as I can and dont post inane rambling. I dont have a problem admitting or posting the superior aspects of either formats, Ive done so in the past (its not my fault that Blu ray doesnt have many, even though they should based on the specs and support). You on the other hand find it difficult to even clarify or defend your position of why you think HD DVD sucks or is bad and when you actually try (a rarity), it is just a rehashed blog links without any meaningful and regurgitated information with very little relevant.
