Times are good folks. Gas prices are lower, the economy is getting stronger and best of all, flat panel prices are falling. According to WitsView, agency that produces all these random numbers for us to write about, the average selling price of LCD TVs are quickly approaching plasma territory. Meaning that you should be able to pick up a 42-inch LCD for around $2038 while a 42-inch plasma should cost you $1843. You can thank ol' Saint Nick for these prices drops this month but you can count on these prices to keep on falling. Overall these new average selling price's aren't to shabby but we still want the prices low 'nough so we can install flat screens in every room of our houses - three in the living room - then times would be
really good.

'Course, I got a 42in LCD Westy from BB on BF for a cool 999. I know, I know, the black levels aren't great, it doesn't do 1080p and there's not ATSC tuner built in. BUT it is half the price of the national average for a 42inch LCD. And just as importantly, I think the picture looks outstanding.

You can pick up a Vizio 42" LCD right now for under $1200. No deals, no coupons, no black friday lineups. Just walk into your local Sam's Club and get one.

So, my paying $1300 for my 42" 1366x768 LCD was a good thing, right? I'm still waiting to be able to do the same for a 42" plasma with a native resolution of 1280x720 or greater for the same price.

Hmm. 42" 1280x768 Plasmas (Philips, Toshiba, etc.) have been about $1200-1300 for a few weeks now at Costco. They dropped even further during Black Friday. IIRC, they're actually a few bucks cheaper than the equivalent 42" LCDs.

Even better, a 42" LCD with 1080P 1(or 2?) HDMI and an ATSC tuner, (no cablecard but who cares?) for $1,299 at COSTCO....so if you think it sucks, take it back.

The contrast ratio is only 1000:1 on that TV! can you even see the difference between black and white?!?
