Not that ricky bobby is bad but its not the same of a show off piece as king kong will be.

2. to me that bluetooth remote is going to be something that people really knock sony for (unless they have some sort of a usb based ir device). Most people getting a ps3 will want to integrate it into their universal remotes (ie harmony, htm etc) and you wont be able to do that with your ps3. Many of the people buying them at launch are using it for a dual use gaming/movie playback and not integrating into your existing universal remote will make alot of people mad.

Aaron

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

Aaron,
Good point on the remote. I didn't even think about that.

And you're right, King Kong may not be the best movie, but it does have a lot of eye-candy that will look great in HD. But they are using Ricky Bobby because it won't be available for purchase on Blu-Ray when the PS3 ships, so you are getting the movie early with the console.

Big Sam

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

Acctually the 600 dollar premuium package will come with the hdmi cables.

Kunal

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

not exactly true they did mention before about maybe adding it in but apparently they changed their minds again according to

http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=7078

The PS3 system will come bundled with one SIXAXIS wireless controller, an AC cord, a USB mini-cable, an ethernet cable, and composite cables. With it playing Blu-rays and DVDs they should be upconverted to 1080p (including the psx and ps2 games). I understand Sony is trying to push Blu-ray and get DVD's off the shelves but everybody knows there is no comparison to an upconverted DVD verse a Blu-ray (one that is descently mastered.) An machine like that should do it. Sony's Blu-ray player (that they delayed AGAIN) is going to do upconversion. Also when it comes to HDMI/component cables being provided, I agree with everyone when they say that they should be provided, however, i fear that if they did provide HDMI or even component cables, that they would be the really cheap cables that they most likely use for testing TVs to make sure the inputs work. When you have a 1080p TV (especially if it is big) it needs to have great cables on it to make it even better quality, bottom line.

Blake

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

Its pretty sad that the unit will not scale standard definition DVDs, but I guess people will find out for themselves that the differences on their questionable displays will not make buying Blu-ray titles not worth it. $600 for a bluetooth-only remote control and no-scaling ability is downright absurd. Blu-ray has a shit selection of movies (not that HD-DVd is MUCh better, it's only slightly better), with Ricky Bobby being prime among them. The movie was garbage, it was a "hit" simply because it involved nascar and there are people dumb enough to still laugh as Ferrell's tired routine. Their first party games are rehashed and the rest of their games will be available for every other console and look exactly the same. YAH! Lets lineup and drop $700 plus to go play average games and watch bad movies!

jsn

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

It seems like people aren't think much these days. If you have a HDTV, the TV will do the upscaling of your DVDs and PS1/2 games. To have the PS3 do it would just be wasting resources.

Blu-ray movies has about 90% movie studio support (about 50% of those you won't see on HD-DVD). HD-DVD movie studio support is about 40% (most of which will be on Blu-ray). HD-DVD had a 3 month head start on Blu-ray, but will most likely be overtaken by Blu-ray before the year is out. MGM has over 1000 titles converted to high-def ready to go on the Blu-ray format (Blu-ray Exclusive titles). If the X360 launch was any indication, it won’t be till spring/summer till the average consumer will be able to walk in and pick up a PS3.

If your studios figures are correct, than I’m rather disappointed with blu-ray’s standing TODAY. You would think they would have trampled hddvd by now…. but wait, it’s $1K to get in the door. If most consumers don’t think it’s important, don’t care, or don’t have the money for hdtv’s, they certainly won’t be buying blu-ray players at that price. PS3 at $500 doesn’t help if it’s vaporware.

pliepl

Comments on PlayStation 3 HD details revealed at Gamers Day

Amazing, Sony is really trying to nickle and dime us.
