So then, what hdmi 1.2 receiver is quality at around $500? JVC is out because of their recently exposed HDCP interoperability problems with tivo. Is the panasonic sa-xr700 likely to be good, or should one stick with an analog receiver such as the denon avr-2307ci?

Hmm - my Denon AVR-987 is HDMI 1.1 and that better be good enough for 'everything' seeing as my TV isn't 1080p as described in it's Literature.
