It offers the "Deep Color" enhanced video but your source material needs to output this. It doesn't magically make your video look better. The TrueHD support is nice but there are no AV Receivers right now with HDMI 1.3 and integrated TrueHD decoders. So quiet honestly the best thing to do is simply grab a HDTV and an HDMI 1.x AV Receiver and let the market improve before hopping in. You can only future proof so much.

hmurchison

Comments on Ask Engadget HD: Is it worth the wait for HDMI 1.3?

I'm curious to know just how obvious the difference between Dolby Digital and TrueHD is, or whether this is just marketing hype. As was mentioned 1.1 can do nicely if your HD-DVD/Blu-Ray handles converting to multi-channel PCM. For someone that mentioned the 6 RCA, in theory other than the additional D/A A/D conversions the 6 RCA should be as good as HDMI 1.1 since they are both sending individual channels.

Since 1.3 players (2nd Gen Toshiba and PS3) are coming before the end of the year and displays should be showing up soon (new Epson 1080p has it already) if you can wait I would.
