Epson's EMP-TW1000 3LCD 1080p projector with HDMI 1.3
Epson just unleashed a new 3LCD projector in Japan under the EMP-TW1000 guise. Most notable is the ability to blast a Full HD (1080p) 1920x1080 resolution image across that 2.1x optical manual zoom lens and the inclusion of HDMI 1.3 to pump pixels at up to 340Mpixels/sec in support of 48-bit color depth and lossless audio streams. The TW1000 throws a maximum contrast ratio of 12,000:1 in a room of total darkness (read: not your home theater) off a 1200 lumen lamp while operating within 26dB worth of noise. The TW1000 should retail for around ¥350,000 or about $2,927 when these go on sale in Japan this December. No world on relese for the rest of world but they should ship closer to home under the same PowerLite branding we're already familiar with. A picture of the backside ports after the break.

Not a bad deal at all for the cost. Time to start saving!

If that price is correct that is major drop for 1080p. Sign me up.

Why "read: not your home theater"? Am I missing something? Thomas, since you have not been in my home theater how would you know what it is like in my bat cave? It all about function for the projected image. No energy was spent on ornateness. Also, please do the readers a favor and discern between on-off contrast, ANSI contrast, dynamic contrast, and whatever Epson can come up with in between. I know its no on-off contrast, but how many others do? I'm better the native on-off contrast of the LCD light engine (minus light modulation and iris) is a lot less than half the reported figure. Of course, I assumed you knew this already and were lazy. Lazy is always better than ignorant.

This sounds promising.

No 1080p Epson LCD FP US offering by xmas this year? That would be a bummer. A 1080p was going to be my xmas present to myself. But certainly keep all 1080p projo product offerings and information coming no matter how little data and hard facts there may be for them.
