Back to the Future coming to UHD
We always give Universal HD a hard time, we make jokes about Knight Rider and other old shows that they choose to fill their schedule with. Sure they have Battlestar Galactica and now Firefly, but even these shows are about 6 months behind the SiFi network. We do realize they're coming around and now they are going to show one of our favorite movies, Back To The Future. It does appear to be a limit engagement so make sure you catch it on October 8th at 9pm EST.[Via AVSForum.com]

I know they didn't have HD camera's back in the 80's so does this mean all older content is just upconverted and if that's case why buy any hd player why not just buy a dvd player that upconverts.

It is not upconverted, this movies like most was filmed than converted to Video for TV and DVD. Film has more resolution than even HD so it is always possible to show even the oldest movies in HD.

Its a measurement of energy, usually referring to electricity.

Right, if the original negative is still around, or if the episode was actually cut on film print, you can easily transfer to HD because all of the inherent resolution in film.
And today, programs like Battlestar Galactica get their film negative transfered straight to HD tape for editing in an HD environment from the very beginning.

I would like to see if engadget could do a side by side comparison with an hd dvd player and an upconverted dvd player. I would like to see the difference. I have seen some older programming in HD via cable(looks upconverted to me) but perhaps they are the ones upconverting and as you stated films have been transfered when it comes to hd dvd's.

If I recall correctly, on one of the Battlestar Galactica episode commentary tracks, Ron Moore stated that the miniseries was shot on film, but the series was being shot using HD cameras.

I doubt that it will have a short run. I bet UHD will show it a couple of times during the week and then turn around in a month or so and do it all over again. But kudo's to UHD. Things are looking up! I will not go out of my way to watch this one but if I am sitting there and see it's on I will watch it.
