5 tips for HDTV shopping

the thing that really gets me about HDTV reviews is what they don't say. i recently bought an HDTV after doing tons of research and going to multiple stores, but the initial tv i bought (a Sharp 37" 40U, one of the highest rated LCD TVs) was returned because it's processor made my DVDs look like ass and the red push was simply unacceptable-- I didn't get to see it work HD, as I took it back immediately. When I made the return, the sales guy pushed me towards a Plasma, and I ended up buying a Panasonic in the same size and am happy with the choice, as HD looks great and so do DVD movies (and SD is fine as well). With the limited selection of HD sources, it probably goes without saying that one should consider what SD/DVD will look like, but very few reviews mention this. My best advice, heard from many others as well, is to take your own DVD to the store with you and don't buy the TV unless the store will let you play it and adjust the settings.
