Verizon is celebrating the big ONE after their first year of
FiOS TV service. The service launched last year on September 22nd and now provides more the 80 communities across seven states. This first year has allowed them to become the number one terrestrial provider of high-def stations at 16 with some areas reaching providing more then 25. Plus, they have naturally become number one in percentage of customers with digital service along with number one in total subscribers with DVRs. The whole system operates over fiber instead of the standard copper found in normal cable systems but the system has to be installed in your area before a person can subscribe and while Verizon is working on upgrading more and more communities, it takes time. Their first year went great so we don't see why the second wouldn't go just as good and reach even more potential subscribers.

I'm still waiting for my town to approve it.
I can't complain much (aside from the much higher bill), with the endless VOOM HD channels I have right now on Dish.

Not in Orlando yet :( This is something I've been looking forward to for 6 months now. I think Tampa has it so I'm hopeful.

Doesn't do me any good. Still can't get it in my neighborhood.

In manhattan they are starting to lay down the fiber optic and offering FIOS broadband - Verizon said they are just waiting for state/city approval and then they can flick the switch and offer FIOS TV
I can't wait

Still waiting for it to come into Dallas. It's on the fringes. Does anyone know what the hold up is? Are they waiting for approval from the city or something?

DAMNIT, FIOS is ALL around ME. Can't wait for it to get here.
DaveTehWave @ Sep 25th 2006 6:54PM
It's here in NoVa...
*If* you have a stand alone house.
I'm in a condo complex and they haven't been able to split it up for 'stacked housing' yet.
I'm dying to dump Comcast so I can get a S3 TiVo and FiOs!
JD @ Sep 25th 2006 7:23PM
Yeah, I'm in NoVa. too. Were I live gets things a little slower. I'm hoping to have it in the next 12-18 months. That was the same for when they put in DSL. I'm in a town house, many around me are condos though.

I have Verizon DSL and i get depressed when i read about FIOS when will it reach N.Y.C. ? it would be way better than what i have now, and better than Roadrunner. sigh i guess all i can do is wait.

I've had my FiOS internet for over a year now and have loved it, not sure if we'll go for the TV service once it arrives, although it had to be better than Comcast.

There's some fresh asphalt out in my neighborhood. Verizon is in the midst of installing the lines throughout. I'm excited for something other than comcast for my TV.

The reason it's in the burbs' is because that's where the wealthy people live. Naturally they're going to offer a new and expensive service to those who can afford it en mass. That may seem shitty but it has to be done. Comcast has had a large marketing campaign going on here in Pittsburgh trying to get it's customers to call their representatives to stop Verizon, it's awfully hypocritical of them. The same thing was down with Cable internet when it was first being adopted, the rich communities and businesses got it first and then, once it was perfected and cheaper, it was adopted everywhere else. The rich folks get first stab at it, that's just life. So, hurry up Mr. and Mrs. Moneybags, buy up that FIOS quick... I'm getting impatient here in the city.

Still not here in the West End of Richmond, VA ... and the FiOS contractors dug up my front lawn about a year ago.
Steve @ Sep 26th 2006 5:21PM
I'm on FiOS Internet right now, and they are holding a meeting with the selectmen soon to get FiOS TV in approved. Can't wait for TV too!
