Welcome to EngadgetHD!

Do not adjust your HDTVs, monitors or however else you access this website. HDBeat has become Engadget HD and we've gone all widescreen and high resolution on you. Since we opened up shop last year we've had closer ties to our pals at Engadget than pretty much anyone else at home (Weblogs, Inc.) or abroad, so it made a lot of sense to team up on hard-hitting HD news. We've got a new layout and new name but we'll be bringing you the same high def news, podcasts, reviews and opinions you've come to expect, as well as expanded coverage of home audio and home theater gear. We've also got a bunch of new categories (yes, Battlestar Galactica fans, that's Universal HD up there) to help organize things a bit better, and an enhanced comment system (for the full rundown, check out Engadget's new feature list). Oh, and to get things started right we will be giving away a few of our favorite things: HDTVs.
We know there might be a few bugs in the new system -- so please give us feedback on how you like the new style, and let us know about any issues you're having. We've got plenty more to show you in the coming weeks, but for now, just kick back and enjoy the new Engadget HD.
P.S. -If you've subscribed to our feeds: first, thanks! Second, please point your reader here. The full list of our category feeds is right here.

Great News !!!
Engadget I hope you bring some objectivity to the podcast. I am one speach on TIVO or Blu-Ray away from being an exlistener. :(

Will Ben, Matt, and Richard still be the primary posters, or will other Engadget folks be posting now? I liked the intimacy of the old site with the smaller community following, but like the idea of the partnership. I hope the site keeps its charm as it grows.
Davidv @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:34PM
Love it! I hope you continue to be my favorite HD related website for a long time comin :D
Matthew ODeegan @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:37PM

Glad to see the revamped comments section.
Question for you; Is there a mobile (windows mobile) nice version of the site (or any engadget site)? I'd love to be able to just browse to something like mobile.engadgethd.com when I'm on my phone.
Doug @ Sep 22nd 2006 4:46PM

Sean @ Sep 22nd 2006 5:02PM
Congrats guys - I wasn't expecting this yet somehow I'm not that surprised. I hope the site keeps its charm though, with a bigger community comes a lot more noise. :)
TV @ Sep 22nd 2006 5:18PM
This is great and all, but what sucks is that Engadget (for
whatever
reason) was blocked at work, but not HDBeat. now as one, I can't reach
either.. Gizmodo it is then (9-5 anyway).. Or RSS feeds on Yahoo (big
whoop)..
sirianpm @ Sep 22nd 2006 5:22PM
Like the partnership...dislike the name.
Kirk Yuhnke @ Sep 22nd 2006 6:03PM
It's gotta be Lost all the way!
B. Williams @ Sep 22nd 2006 6:23PM
Wow, you don't hit the stie for a few hours and all H#LL breaks loose.
Congrats on the new hook-up, the larger text area and bigger pictures are an improvement.
Now, if only you had more HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray coverage..

so much for our little HD Beat community, now we will get all the lame fanboy comments from the engadget side
and what is up with the slow website, takes all day to scroll through the stories
Chris Murray @ Sep 22nd 2006 6:53PM
gotta be: CSI Miami, it really shines in HD!
Overseer @ Sep 22nd 2006 7:23PM
Hmmm...wondered why my iTunes podcast feed started showing endgadgetHD all of a sudden and the HDBeat had disappeared. Guess that it explains that. :-p
Mark @ Sep 22nd 2006 7:40PM
I like the new look.
Jordy @ Sep 22nd 2006 7:49PM
i hope this site takes off guys
Steve J @ Sep 22nd 2006 8:13PM
Ahhhhhh... everything's changed. I don't like change. There was nothing wrong with HD Beat (aside from Matt's HD-DVD lovin...)
It really doesnt help that I came here at 1am UK time after having a large amount of beer.
WiFiSpy @ Sep 22nd 2006 8:21PM
Sweet!

Huzzah! Looking forward to some great content on this new site. Seeing as how I just hooked up my 32" HP HDTV to my computer via DVI to get dual monitors going (a 19" samsung running along side, I will be quite interested in this site.
Markcus Dunn @ Sep 23rd 2006 2:21AM
Nice. I'm glad you guys also got the new site software.

first time in your site and I'm loving it. Every article I read so far has been very interesting.
WASD John @ Sep 25th 2006 12:39AM
Already checked both sites on a regular basis. It'll take some getting used to the name change, but I will manage.
Maff Mace @ Sep 25th 2006 10:31AM
now it's "Engadget HD" rather than HDBeat, can we please be more universal?
there's plenty of readers from outside the US, yet you fail to recognise that in the listings.
Also, one annoying thing the HDBeat did was the "HD Easter Eggs" which weren't HD related at all, especially the My Name Is Earl ones, that show is broadcast all over the world, and here in the UK we've had widescreen SD for 8 years, and those "HD" easter eggs are easily viewable in SD
ColourSource @ Sep 25th 2006 11:35AM
This was a great idea, but I'm having a tough time stopping myself from typing hdbeat.
My take is this...
You have a strong identity in Engadget. Exploit it. It's the same with Joystiq. When they introduced the fanboy sites, which by the way is an insulting name, they missed a huge opportunity to not carry the Joystiq brand further.
Wryker @ Sep 26th 2006 12:28PM
I miss seeing the 'latest posts' box to quickly see if someone posted to story that might be an 'older' story.
Erick @ Sep 28th 2006 1:46PM
Hi,
Just wanted to say, nice move to Engadget, that's decent. Should be a decent move.
Just wanted to vent about/complain about a few things.
1) Growing the broswer width, to it's minimum to remove the bottom slider bar, the ads/sections listing, etc on the right are LARGER than the content. That's just plain wrong.
2) The "biggie" pics...find a better image compression routine, please...the large images are pretty, sure, but when viewing in a smaller window they get Jaggie and kinda ugly...I'm a fan of a crisp image, especially when reading about HD, I mean, come on! Reviews of a TV, and the picture has Moire effects on the speakers, the edges are Jaggy and the image on the set is distorted...not cool. I'm not impressed with the outcome of that technology. (Not to pimp a friends ideas, so, I won't mention names, but he developed a way of determining bandwidth automatically and sending "the right" webpage to a person based on that. I'm sure an image could be better processed to a few sizes and automatically fed to people based on the size. Would be better than this dynamic resizing, IMHO).
3) This may just be a side effect of the biggie images, but I tend to use my google personal homepage with their reader on it, and all of a sudden your pop-up bubbles are huge and a scroll bar is introduced within the bubble, and sometimes it's just the text. Check your XML coding, maybe? They used to fill about a third of the screen with no scroll bars (easy reading) now they're a mess.
Thanks and end of rant.
