JVC takes VCRs to the HD level
So you happen to have lots of VCR tapes you simply aren't ready to get ride of and we are sure they don't look that great on your new HDTV. JVC might have you covered though with their newest VCR/DVD combo that can output those tapes via the HDMI input all the way up to 1080i. Forgot that internal scaler on the HDTV of yours and use JVCs. We don't know if this proves that scaler chips have reached a saturation point or manufactures are exploiting the marketing of high-def. If you are wiling to try, JVC might just have a solution to bring the craptastic video quality of your VCR tapes up to high-def quality for $269 - just make sure the retailer you pick one up at has a good return policy.

VHS's blurry picture upconverted to 1080i, sounds like a whole lotta unwatchable tv to me.

I get the feeling that this product not only marketed towards those people who for some reason want to hook up a VCR to a plasma set, but more than likely produced so you can have one cable going to the DVD instead of two sets of cables. But yeah, still idiotic.

Petel, you need to keep in mind that many consumers in America have been raised (or brainwashed) to accept DirecTV's overcompression and reduced bitrates to produce their idea of an acceptable level of picture quality. So, DBS looks like crap and this will look just like it.
BTW, do you notice how this website never 'questions' the integrity of these manufacturers?

If they question the manufacturers integrity they won't get any freebies or review material.

I believe this set was made JUST for salespeople who need something more to sell to less-knowledgeable consumers. The thought of VHS "upconverted" is making my heart murmur kick back in.
