If the PS3 didn't come with Blu-Ray, and if you had the option to purchase a high definition drive as an add-on, and you could choose between HD DVD or Blu-Ray, I'm personnally of the mind that Blu-Ray not only becomes far less relevant, it would then struggle to stay alive. The only reason Blu-Ray has any support is because of the potential of the PS3.
The PS3 alone is not enough to drive Blu-Ray, but it's certainly a sizeable force that doesn't hurt either.
