It is great to see how far plasmas have come. It would be cool if they posted the retail prices above each plasma to see the price decline as well.

EvilManatee

Comments on Pioneer @ CEDIA - History of Pioneer plasmas

Looking at the picture it appears they haven't changed at all, except the newer ones are black and the old ones are grey.

Also I don't believe the colour chanes, I have a number of Plasma's around teh house and actually the older ones tend to look better than the new ones (of the same resolution).

Besides, I'm surprised they even found a Plasma from the 90's that still works - I have around four of them sitting in my workshop awaiting PSU fixes that cost almost twice as much as a new plasma TV costs.

Ben Hobbs

Comments on Pioneer @ CEDIA - History of Pioneer plasmas

When the technology begins to reach a mature condition the year-to-year changes are often found to be less and less significant. What this means for a product manufacturer is that there will be less and less reason for someone last year, or the year before that, to upgrade.

This is good in a way in that a mature technology will become mass-consumer and inexpensive and then allow a newer technology to enter the market (SED, OLED, etc.) are the boutique technology for the next decade.

GhostDoggy

Comments on Pioneer @ CEDIA - History of Pioneer plasmas

#2, You have GOT to be kidding. Seriously, are you nuts? NO older display looks better than newer ones, even if they are from the same generation (i.e.: used vs. new out of the box). If you put up your ancient reference display next to one of the new ones (from ANY brand), you'd be crying into your soup. I can't believe you actually had the brass ones to post such a blatantly false comment.

#3, if you had seen the Pioneer demo, you'd see that significant improvements are being made with every generation: black levels improve, detail improves, color accuracy improves. This is true of ever brand. None of these are " less significant".

Mr Satyre

Comments on Pioneer @ CEDIA - History of Pioneer plasmas

Why would SED blow away current stuff

marc Scharaga
