Last night was the beginning of a new seasor for ABC's
Dancing with the Stars, and also the first time the show aired in HD. We didn't get a chance to check it out here, but TV Squad did in SD, and complained that the show wasn't letterboxed and many bits of text on the screen ran off on the edges. While we feel for our SD brethren, one of the many complaints we hear frequently is that shows aren't framed properly to take advantage of widescreen HDTVs so if they err a bit on the side of 16:9 that's ok with us. Also this morning was the first episode of the
Today show in HD, complete with new
set and host Meredith Viera. With

I caught a little bit of The Today Show this morning. It looked good, but the shots inside seemed a slight bit soft in comparison to something like HDNet or good CBS HD. Of course, no Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune in HD on my provider, and there was no way I was going to watch Dancing with the Stars (and the WSOP was on ESPN anyway).

My wife was thrilled with Dancing with the Stars in HD. It looked very nice. It's a little soft but much, much improved over SD. It does look like daytime TV is going HD. I'll have to record Today show in HD tomorrow morning.

As ashamed as I am to say it, I watched most of Dancing in HD and here in Rochester NY it looked great. Seemed to be a really good HD signal, nice and clear, similar to when ABC had MNF games.
Does it help any that I watched it so I could be better aware of the conversation on the Howard Stern show? :)

I enjoyed the first episode. However, when Jerry Springer remained the second night and another went home, it was puzzling(?) The next week, the same thing happened and I realized talented dancers were leaving. I know there are reasons for this happening (?popularity?) but it invalidates the premise of "choosing the best dancer". I guess I will be absent from the remaining episodes. I know the public votes but nevertheless.....................
