IFA 2006: Philips shows off 100-inch Ambilight display
Not too surprising since it was LG.Philips who showed off a 100-inch LCD earlier this year, however Philips took time at IFA to pimp not only their upcoming Blu-ray player but also the updated -- hopefully slightly less dangerous -- Ambilight technology. Just as 1080p has turned into "Full HD", Ambilight on all four sides of the screen is now Full surround, while Ambilight on three sides is merely Ambilight Surround. They'll have TVs featuring both on display throughout the exhibition, including the winner of the recent European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA) High-End LCD TV of the Year. They'll wrap things up with a couple new additions to their line of Viiv PCs, including the MCP9480i with HDMI, Blu-ray playback & recording, and DVB-T capability.

Wow it's beautiful!
'tis a shame I'd have to remove the roof of my house and have that bad boy delivered via crane.

The panel is based on LG.Philips LCD’s proprietary copper-based interconnect technology. This technology, announced in 2002, enables transmission of video signals across an entire large-area LCD screen without noise enabling the creation of sharp images with virtually no distortion or display jitter. The technology is based on using copper wires in thin film transistors (TFTs), which transmit the electrical charges. Copper has low electrical resistance for example, 60 percent less than aluminium alloy and 92 percent less than chromium.

Mike, nice words, but unless its getting 10000-to-1 on/off contrast and a nicely low black level the backlighting is only helping with perceived blacks.
I could care less what the marketing says as they are typically so far from reality as to be meaningless to all but the desired ignorant buyer.

It's breathtaking. The bezel appears to be Glossy Black, yeah!!! Please tell me this will be produce for consumers. What could be better than to play video games the entire weekend on a beauty like this without the risk of burn-in.
