Mitsubishi projector watch: 1st 1080p front projector, 2 new Darkchip3 models

Better late then never Mitsubishi. Most other major display manufacturers have already gotten their first, or even second, 1080p front projector from the labs and onto the shelves, but the LVP-HC5000 is going to be Mitsu' first. It's not that we are complaining though as this projector seems to be aimed directly at Sony's 1080p SXRD Pearl projector. Mitsu's is a 3LCD design with a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 (static is 2000:1), brightness is 1,000 nits, and of course, 1080p. Inputs are rather standard with one HDMI, one DVI-D, VGA, component, and composite. The real beauty of the projector though is the 450,000 Yen price that works out to be a rather affordable $3,890.37 price. There isn't any word on a US release just yet, but we are confident that this guy will make its way across the Pacific and into the homes of many HD enthusiasts.

The LVP-HC3100 may not have that 1080p moniker attached to it but this projector is powered by a DarkChip3 DLP system that just might give the viewer better colors and a smoother image then the 3LCD based 1080p projector. The DarkChip3 doesn't do 1080p so this projector is 1,280 x 768 resolution with a contrast ration of 4,000:1 and 1,000 lumans all powered by a 200W lamp. Just like its big brother, this projector has an HDMI port, VGA, component, S-Vid, composite. This projector is going to retail for a few dollars less then the 1080p model at 240,000 Yen -- $2,074.86 USD

The third projector is to ensure Mitsu hits every possible price point. Just a warning though, the lower price does mean you are sacrificing some quality though. The LVP-HC1100 is going to have a 3,000:1 contrast ratio but will maintain 1,000 lumans brightness. You also loss the HDMI port as this projector only has DVI-D along with the normal array of component, composite and S-Vid. But the whole unit is powered by the same 200 watt lamp that the HC3100 utilizes. For 180,000 Yen ($1,556 USD) it is a rather nice projector for the first time HD enthusiast.

Wow! That 1080P price is pretty nice. Wonder how it compares quality wise with similiarly priced models.

I've been waitin for 1080p LCD Projectors for ages, Lets hop ethe next iteration of teh Sanyo Z series and the Panasonic PTAE series are also 1920x1080.

Although the 1080p LCD projector is nice, it's the price point on the 720p DLPs that's interesting -- going back to the original watch-impress site, the HC1100 appears to be identically spec'd to the in-stock-now HD1000 -- http://www.mitsubishipresentations.com/products/projectors/HD1000u.html ... MAP $1500 is excellent for 720p from anyone, let alone a 720p DLP (heck, the inFocus SP4805, a well-regarded 480p DLP originally listed at $1500 when it was introduced a year and a half ago).
