Not sure we saw this coming, but HBO Video has announced that when they release
The Sopranos: Season 6 Part 1 on DVD this fall and HD DVD will get a day and date release too. This will be HBO's first HD DVD release and make many happy, who can't wait to enjoy their favorite shows like never before. Sure they could have seen them on HBO HD, but we all know that leaves some people less than satisfied. But before all the HD DVD fanboys get too excited and the Blu-ray fan boys slit their wrists, they should know that HBO Video is format agnostic and will be releasing the same titles for Blu-ray in 2007.

Looking good for HD DVD this winter. Looks more and more likely everyday that Warner is soon to officially announce the release dates for Batman Begins, Harry Potter, & Terminator 3. Other websites have the front and back covers of the discs which show IME's (In Movie Experiences) on Potter and T3. Now if Universal could just get King Kong out by Christmas...BTW Is there ever any good news for Blu Ray owners? Oh thats right, they are getting 8 Below and Dinosaurs from Disney. OUCH!! What good is they're support if they arent gonna release the big guns when Blu Ray needs it the most?

I think the problem with Sopranos being released on HD DVD is that the collection won't be complete. Granted they can go back and release the previous seasons, but I believe, not sure though, they switched to HD cameras around season 3 or 4. Sorry, but I don't want upscaled bullshit for seasons 1, 2 and maybe 3.

Don't worry,It doesnt matter as long as it was shot and mastered on film. Some shows are shot on film then mastered on video which means it cant be remastered in Hi-Def. I could be wrong but im pretty sure thats right. They dont have to use hi-def cameras for that. Paramount is remastering the original Star Trek series in Hi-Def for release on HD DVD because it was shot and edited on film, as well as Enterprise. They cant do that to the other Trek series such as Next Gen or Voyager because they were mastered on video.

Bring on the HD-DVD Sopranos! Tony and crew look great on HBO HD, and now not having a bit rate bottleneck with HD-DVD should mean it will look that much better!

This is great news! Hey HBO? How about Deadwood and Rome on HD DVD for Christmas?
chunt @ Aug 10th 2006 10:18AM
Hey, Bozo. "Could of" is not English.

#5: Notice that it's announced for both formats. And one *part* of the second-to-last season for $129.95 doesn't exactly sound like a deal.
SJ @ Aug 10th 2006 2:12PM
This is great news, but how much are the HD-DVD sets going to cost? HBO sells the seasons on DVD for $100 (though Amazon sells them for around $65...so $200 for an HD-DVD season? I guess renting is the only option
SJ @ Aug 10th 2006 2:18PM
My bad....should always RTFA before posting a comment. $129 doesnt sound too bad, so it'll probably cost $100 on Amazon.
