Umm...because they wanted to get the 360 to market in Nov. 2005 (as opposed to Nov. 2006 for Sorny), and HD-DVD wasn't ready to market yet at that time. Kinda like how Bluray still isn't ready for primetime... (cropping? On 1080p? Seriously!?)
