Firefly reruns going high-def on UHD
Thanks to series creator Joss Whedon's insistence in shooting on film and in widescreen cult favorite Firefly has made an excellent candidate for the HD treatment and it is finally going to get it. The entire short-lived series, originally shown on Fox, will begin airing in 1080i September 24th on Universal HD. The movie adaptation Serenity was one of the first HD DVDs available, now we just want to know how long until we get a boxed HD DVD release? After this addition you may want to re-evaluate your most wanted network, we can see Universal HD moving up a few lists right now. This show brings it just a little closer to that HD Sci-Fi network so many people would like to see.
[Thanks, Edgar]

I got the Firefly dvd set, I got the serenity dvd, and now I am being tempted to get HD-DVD because of serenity being released for it. Hearing news of this show finally making an HD appearance is great news as I have wondered about this for some time. If this gets released on HD-DVD I would definetly pick up an HD-DVD player! Until then I now can't wait till September 24th!

Don't hold your breath. Firefly is owned by Fox, and so any release will be on Blu-ray for the forseeable future.
However, owning Serenity on HD DVD myself, I will say its the best way yet of seeing the big damn movie at home! And I'll be getting a PS3 anyway, so I'll be covered if Fox (wisely) decides to release Firefly in high def on Blu-ray.

Serenity is definitely worth it on HD DVD. However, Fox owns Firefly, so any high def release in the forseeable future will be Blu-ray. So if you want both, you'll have to support both formats.
Serenity is part of the reason I got the HD-A1 though. It does look fantastic. And I'm getting a PS3 anyway, so I'm covered if Fox does (wisely) choose to put the show out on Blu-ray.

Uh, Universal HD IS on Dish Network. I watch Battlestar Galactica (modern ver.) every Sunday on it. And the Dish HD DVR (VIP622) records it with no loss from the original broadcast quality. Brilliant.

I watch Universal HD. Its a shame that this blogsite provides newsbits on an HD channel their go out of their way to ignore on the nightly HD lineup.

If Fox can't or won't enlarge the fan base, then the ways to make money out of Firefly are twofold: (i) sell us new episodes of Firefly; or (ii) find ways to sell us the same episodes of Firefly again. I can see Firefly being available in HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, iTunes, and every other medium that can be sold to the existing base. And if possible, collector's edition sets as well. Get creative, Fox: Nine cast members mean nine potential featured characters on the box cover!
