We don't know how we feel about this one. Xploder claims that their device will turn your non-HD Playstation 2 games into high-def via its
HDTV Game Player software. This piece of software is installed onto a users memory card and somehow that allows all those 480i games you have laying around to become gorgeous high-def; just like that. We don't totally know how this thing works, or if it works at all, but one thing is for sure, and that is, if you want high-def gaming, this thing is a whole lot cheaper then a Xbox 360 or PS3. For some reason we think these games are going to be high-def in the same way you 'beat' all those Nintendo games thanks to
The Game Genie.

If you start with a pig, bathe it, give it a haircut, put lipstick on it, put it in a dresss, its still a pig.
You can't increase the quality of the source. You can reduce loss to "improve" it, such as using a better cable or better display device.

I will be ESTATIC if that thing can put MGS3 into a decent resolution

this reminds me of the bleemcast that existed to play ps1 games on the dreamcast. MGS1 sure looked awesome!

Isn't this place called "HD Beat"? Come on...what's with the "we don't know how this thing works"? There's only one thing it can be doing--upconverting/de-interlacing. Ladies and gentlemen, there is no magic here, just like there isn't with upconverting DVD players. Despite what Chloe and Jack Bauer show you on TV ("can you zoom in on that?!", "sure, here it is, crystal clear at 180x!"), you can't "add" detail to an image where it doesn't already exist, and thereby make a better picture. If you want to make a 480i image into a 1080i image, you have to add pixels, and you have to guess, or "interpolate", what those pixels should be. It's like using a digital zoom on a digital camera...the circuitry has to estimate what the extra pixels are, and sometimes it does an OK job. More often than not, it looks downright sucky. Same will be the case here. You can't take a non-HD source and make it HD. Sorry. It might look a little better, but likely not enough to warrant the price of admission.

I disagree Cory. If that's the case then my Oppo DVD player connected via HDMI to my 50" plasma wouldn't help. In fact, it makes the DVDs look BEAUTIFUL. Deadwood hasn't ever looked this good. Good interlacing software is the key. If this stuff is really good I'll wait for Faroujda (SP?) to initiate a lawsuit ;)
FYI HD Fans, I purchased the Oppo HDMI only player and it's SWEET!
See ya,
