I don't surf as much as I used to (only HD channel surfing), as I usually have something good waiting for me on the DVR. I surf the guide about twice a week looking for good stuff (mostly all HD) to record. Overall I watch less TV in general, but I watch more quality (read much more HDTV) programming. And I usually FF through the commercials. An hour show turns into 45 minutes roughly.

Jim

Comments on The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

Too be honest, I don't know. I probably watch more because I'm not much of a channel surfer. I'd rather surf the internet than flip through random channels. But I do catch all of my shows instead of occasionally missing some. And I watch more movies on my DVR (especially during the summer) that I would not have watched otherwise.

Big Sam

Comments on The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

I watch a lot more. I'm not one to sit down and watch a show at a specific time every day so giving me the ability to record it and watch whenever makes me record a lot of shows I would not otherwise sit and watch.

Eagle117

Comments on The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

Thanks to HD DVR and the feature of being able to set it up to record all my shows weekly, I believe I do watch more than I would have with out the HD DVR before I would miss it and realized I missed it and be done now when the time becomes available I watch my shows. For me and my wife it is money well spent and can't imagine going without it now , as for HD because I spend a good deal of money on being able to have HD I choose to watch mostly HD shows and skip all the rest.

Bryce Estabrooks

Comments on The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

We didn't have HD capability before we got our DVR box, so getting it has definetely increased our HD viewing. Technically though, having the DVR box has increased the amount of TV that we watch, as now I've been able to find shows that might play late at night, early in the morning, during the work day, etc, that I just wouldn't have been bothered to set up a tape recording for. Almost all of the stuff we record now is HD (either from a network or one of the 'digital' HD cable channels like Discovery or Natl. Geographic.) Most of the shows are stuff that I record just to have something to watch just when there's nothing else really on that can hold my interest...fill, you could say.

ZipperSeven

Comments on The Times asks: "Does a DVR boost viewing hours or not?"

I totally watch more HD program.
