1. Football all the way. Simply incredible, jawdrop.
2. Hockey, it's like watching it for the first time.
3. Basketball, very shiny floors add to the realism.
4. Baseball, very green.
5. Golf, let's you really see the beauty of the courses.

Let me just say this. Poker isn't a sport, and I'm not just saying that because I suck a poker.

Hockey

Hockey is number 1 in terms of improvement through HD. The visibility of the puck has finally gotten to the point where non-fans don't get completely lost.
As for the rest, baseball still needs a pitch clock, so who cares if I can now watch individual blades of grass grow between pitches, and I really don't see the need for HD poker. Given the list, here's my version:
1. Hockey
2. Football
3. Tennis
4. Baseball
5. Poker

Hockey and Soccer easily get the nods here in terms of best improvement over SD for the sport.
1) Hockey
2) Soccer
3) US Football
4) Baseball
5) Everything else except Pro Basketball
Very Last Place) Pro Basketball, because nobody wants to see Shaq's sweat stains on his shorts in HiDef.

When it comes to improvements, I list them in this order:
1. Hockey: Being able to easily follow the puck around the ice is a gigantic improvment over SD.
2. Football: The HD (including surround sound of the feeds) and the widescreen really allow viewers to see a play develop. You can see down field and watch a receiver cutting across the middle instead of the quarterback looking like he is throwing to nobody on an SD feed.
3. Basketball: The gleam off the court and the surround sound of the fans cheering (or jeering) actually makes you feel like you are at the arena. (And note, I actually do care for basketball, but I will watch one is HD because it is beautiful and entertaining)
4. Soccer: If you watched the World Cup this summer, you know what I am talking about.
5. Everything else...
Baseball in HD isn't that great, a majority of the footage is the angle from behind the pitcher. Having a widescreen HD feed of this doesn't do much.
Poker in HD... are you serious? What a waste... wow, look at the gleam of the queen. Or maybe, look how realistic that felt looks... I mean jeez. Maybe if it is celebrity poker and Jessica Alba and Penelope Cruz are all-in on the last hand ;-) Oh yea, give me HD for that one.

1. Hockey
2. Soccer
3. NASCAR
4. Boxing
5. Mixed Martial Arts (cagefighting)
all 'framed' for HD viewers in 16X9
all as seen on HDNnet :-)

I'd have to say soccer is the most improved because the game is viewed at such a distance. I'm sure hockey is great too but I'm not a fan so seeing the puck doesn't really matter to me. I found basketball to be somewhat annoying with all the flashes, strobes, and advertisements. It ended up being visual pollution. Golf is nice and baseball is great too. I still can't get over how good World Cup soccer looked though. Wow.

2. Football
3. Tennis
4. Baseball
5. Poker, but who cares about HD poker?
bgdc @ Jul 28th 2006 1:40AM
Football by far. The action's better and it's the one reason I have DTV too.
Big Sam @ Jul 28th 2006 3:48AM
HD or not:
1. Football (US)
2. Football
3. Football
4. Basketball
5. Soccer
Ok I may move soccer up to 4 in HD, but only if it doesn't have that big bar across the top of the screen.

only sport worth watching in HD IMO is Football (the proper football, not the ones the US play with their hands!)

Best sports to watch in high-def:
1. Football (US) - I still remember my first high-def game. A pass was underthrown and I could tell that it was short before the play had finished. I really got a better sense of spacing and slightly more depth to the image.
2. Basketball - If and when they use the camera that moves around on wires. Standard "press box" camera shots aren't at all impressive. Moving, up-close, camera angles that show spacing are awesome. If a broadcast isn't using the moving camera, basketball ranks much lower on the list.
3. Hockey - Very easy to follow the puck.
4. Baseball - Simply looks great framed 16x9.
5. Boxing - I've only seen briefly on HBO (free month) and maybe on HDNet. Looked pretty cool seeing the damage in detail.
