1080i fireworks
Our good friends over at WXIA 11Alive, an NBC affiliate in Atlanta announced they will be broadcasting the local fireworks celebration July 4th in high-def, have you checked your local listings to see if anyone is in your area? Actually, it's July 4th, going outside and watching the show in real-life resolution is permissible (but just this once). Unfortunately none of the major network's websites indicate they will be airing high-def fireworks nationally for those of us who will stay in or who live in cities that had their shows already. However, you can always fire up a game of Geometry Wars and it's practically the same thing.
Update - As Tyler pointed out below, there are high-def fireworks to be had, albeit reruns from 2003, on Discovery HD. Like old leftovers, smell them first, then consume.

discovery HD? HDNet? No HD fireworks on either of those channels? You would think they would...

PBSHD will have the PBS "A Capitol Fourth" in HD, from Washington DC.
Check you listings. About 8PM Eastern, I think.

There will be live music, including the headlining band Blessed Union of Souls.

INHD-2 will be running 22 hours of the "Discoveries...America" series, which are one hour shows on each state in the U.S..
Of course I may not be the best judge, since I produce the series, but we think if you're shut inside it's a great way to learn about this great country of ours.
Happy 4th of July!!!

Here in Orlando, the city's fireworks display were broadcasted on our local ABC station in HD. Looked oh so pretty!
They went HD in their news broadcasts just last week... but I guess they didn't have enough HD cameras/equipment overall to cover the event so they even went to the trouble of renting a HD-Event Team (like what you would see at a Sports game or whatnot, with the huge mobile HD Control Room).
So major props to them.
If I had a dollar for each time they mentioned how it was in HD, I would be a rich man ;)

We had HD Fireworks and Pops goes the 4th concert on channel 4 in Boston. I was at the local town fireworks so I'll have to watch tonight to see how they looked.
