Pioneer's Blu-ray player officially delayed

Nothing real surprising here. There has been a lot of rumbling on the 'ol net about Pioneer delaying their Blu-ray player. Well, it seems it was true and Pioneer is in fact going to delay the release of their Blu-ray box. It was originally going to launch this month, but now it isn't going to hit the shelves till sometime this fall. This is a shame too as Pioneer was a great alternative to purchasing the Samsung player. It just gave the consumer more options and with the issues with the Toshiba player (most which have been resolved by the firmware) many people would like another option for HD DVD.

This is turning into a Catch-22, isn't it? No content since no player. No player since no content. Someone needs to start sending email to these idiots and let them know they bought their competition's equipment because of their lazy behinds stalling until the third coming of Fat Bastard.

Well, I am hoping Pioneer wants ANY Elite model (even the 1st gen BR player) to be up to the usually great standards they have for Elite gear.
Imagine if the Elite was buggy, sluggish, and just a lame duck - that would not be good for their reputation.
BTW, I don't work for or own any Pioneer gear, just my take on why it is being delayed ;)

My choice for these next gen HD movie players will all depend on who provides me with a 1080p player first. If someone can release a HD-DVD player that outputs true 1080p then I will be very happy.

The earliest 1080p HD DVD player won't come for several months. They haven't even announced plans for one. All Blu-ray players will include 1080p output. There's 4 announced for between now and early November (Samsung, Sony, Pioneer, and Panasonic), and rumors are that there are at least 9 brands, some with more than 1 model, expected by year's end. Even better, a couple should be priced competitively with the low-end Toshiba ($500-$600).
