Verizon moves FiOS into Wakefield, MA and City of Laurel, MD
Verizon keeps on rolling out their FiOS service out across America. Next up is Wakefield, MA and City of Laurel, MD. Both of those city councils approved the installation of the fiber in order to give their residents more options for television service. Together, the two cities will offer Verizon 61,000 potential new customers. In case you are not familiar with the FiOS service, it sends the television signal across fiber optic lines rather then the standard copper. This allows for a lot more available bandwidth for Internet service and HDTV stations. Think 30Mbs Internet and 30+ HDTV stations on the same line.

Fios rocks. We have this in Pittsburgh and it completely outruns comcast cable, and its cheaper. Verizon - you did something right for once. Now teach your Wireless service to be as innovative (yes, I am a verizon wireless subscriber too).

Has anyone tried contacting them to see when they're coming to a given area? I looked for contact info but didn't see anything right off that looked right. I'm guessing if you asked they would say they have no information for a national schedule at this time or something like that.
I'm in metro Atlanta and wondering when they're coming here.

I live in Laurel. I got a flyer from Verizon a while ago. The offer didn't look impressive, and was just for internet, no mention of tv over the fiber.
Ah, I just read the details. Cool, if they offer tv I'll ditch Comcast in a second.

#2: You will probably know when they are planning a roll-out by the mess they make in your yard as they bury cable. I came home one day a few months ago and found a 6foot pile of dirt on my front lawn and a trench next to it. The work vans had signs that said, "Verizon Fios Contractor" on them.
The roll-out on the west end of Richmond, Va is later this year or early next...or so I was told by the contractors.

Yeah I thought it was really weird that Verizon was tearing up my front lawn for utility work when I don't even have a landline anymore.
