Blu-ray is a month away from launching (
hopefully) and Sony just doesn't think that they will be able to meet the demand. This concern is stemming from the sales rate of current electronic devices and their supply of parts. Apparently, this is going to hit our dear Blu-ray products hard and Sony just doesn't think they will be able to keep the inventory up on it. This is not only going to affect the PS3 but also component based Blu-ray players.
So the moral of the story he is that if you want one of these Blu-ray players, pick one up when you can.

Good thing Samsung, Pioneer, and Panasonic are all bringing out BD players in the next 4 months or so.

I would think that this could open the door wide for HD-DVD. If the consumer can't easily buy a Blu-Ray player, how can the format succeed? Why would studios choose to release movies on Blu-ray if the players are in short supply and always out of stock? Or is this just some way for Sony to justify high player prices?
Will this component supply problem also plague HD-DVD players? Since the Toshiba models are basically glorified computers (hense the long media load times, etc) why would there be component shortages, as PC components are basicly commodity items anyway?
I can understand shortages of certain things, like LCD glass, but not electronics. I don't see any magical components inside a large footprint DVD player that also go into a cell phone like the Sony guy described.

Obviously Toshiba is having significant problems supplying HD DVD players too. What is not clear is whether the limited supply is due to parts shortages or efforts on the part of Toshiba to resolve the problems that have plagued the HD-A1.

I've been listening to this podcast for about 2 months. And I've come
to the conclusion that Matt is an HD-DVD/Microsoft fanboy.
I'm your worst enemy, Matt.

I think these biased blu-ray posts are generated by the Sony tycoons and thier minions. Blu-ray is over-priced, not compatible with dvd format and well, basically sucks. Microsoft is not leading the HD-DVD revolution. Who was it that placed a nice little rootkit in thier audio discs? Down with the man!

Sony minions? Hmmm, I think that term best fits Microsoft.
News flash...in 5-6 years. Microsoft will ditch the Xbox. Their stockholders wont support the losses anymore. Not against Sony. Bank on it!
